I don’t know how many times I’ve been to a clothing store and left feeling frustrated and heard myself sighing and saying, “I don’t understand fashion trends anymore..” it’s sad but true. I’m a girly-girl through and through and finding affordable “prep” clothing like A-line skirts, tailored blouses and little cardigans isn’t easy. I could go to J-Crew, but I’m not into paying $75 for a cardi I can hold up to the light and see through. I’m also not set into purchasing higher priced closet staples because my reality is I have children, including a toddler who rubs his adorable, but grubby and sticky little mouth on my pant-leg almost everyday. I need pieces that won’t break the bank, that help make me look put together,  that are comfy, and that I can get at least a season or two out of.

I’m in love with flowy, pleated skirts and dresses right now so it’s easy for me to want one of everything from DownEast Basics. But when I had the chance to pick a review item from this company, I went with something that would be light, easy to pack, that was colorful and perfect for my trip to Mexico in the sweltering heat. I choose the May Day Skirt, which is a printed woven skirt with a fold over waistband. When I was trying my skirt on, I was really surprised to see that I could wear this skirt as a dress! Since I’m short, it became a great little strapless a-line dress and this is how I wear it most of the time! It’s light, stretchy on top {read: comfortable!}, flows away from my hips and thighs {yay!} and has a unique print. It’s lined with a light slip so you can’t see through the cotton poplin.

This skirt is $26 and you’ll find that most of the pieces are anywhere from $14-$34. Adorable belts, hair accessories and jewelry can also be purchased along with skirts, tops, swimwear, dresses and even little girl’s clothing!
