About Amanda

I'm Amanda. I started Natural Mommie in 2009 and have been turning mommies from eco-weak to eco-chic ever since! Having an intense addiction to sparkly pink strawberry flavored lipgloss and never claiming to be perfectly green I vowed to not give up my hip mama self once I became a mom and wanted to bring a little more organic into my life. My closet still isn’t full of organic cotton and bamboo, but it’s getting there!

I love it. It looks so pretty.

I have red hair and have all my life. :) What kinds of tips are you looking for? I assume yours is color treated. Make sure that you are using a color treated shampoo since red does have a tendancy to bleed (especially on sheets and pillow cases). I am a former hair dresser. If you really want to lock in the vibrant red, you can do a clear henna over your hair. That will add shine and hold the color.

Thanks Kendra! I’ve never heard of clear henna before! The last time I used a henna was about 15 years ago and it was a reddish color but had bits of herbs and wood/bark or something in it! It was a disaster and didn’t do anything for my hair. I wouldn’t even know where to look for one!

I don’t have any tips for you but wanted to say you look fantastic! It really suits you :)

Go opposite the color wheel (greens, blues, browns, white, black) Makeup doesn’t change, except lip colour (if you do dark eyeliner, do a neutral lip, like a posh pink gloss, or something shimmery, summery golds or corals, to your taste.) Jewelry looks better in warm tones (bronze, gold, beads)… That color looks hot on you. You work it well!

I never would have thought about going opposite on the color wheel! Great idea. I have a nude/shimmery lip gloss that didn’t go so well with my blond or dark hair, but it works perfect now! I’m trying to figure out jewelry too…I’m thinking you’re right about the gold. I wore pearls yesterday and they didn’t look right.

Looks great! I’m no expert (far from it) but I’d think olive green would look nice!

Thanks! And yes, I did some googling and that’s what I read too. Apparently there’s a green that works for every shade of red. Problem is I don’t own one piece of green clothing! LOL shopping trip….?

  5. Your hair looks fantastic! Purple eyeshadows rock with red heads (especially if you have green eyes).

Being a natural redhead, I have to say — neutral, neutral, neutral!! Of course, I’m a little partial to all the earth tones anyway, but they are the best colors on me.

Thanks ladies!! It’s been fun experimenting. I’ve had to change up my makeup a bit and can’t wear my normal pinkish blush anymore…I swapped it out for a more peachy color and that works better. Normally tans and beige wash me out, but it works well with my new hair!

I’ve heard that red fades really quickly and a friend suggested spritzing my hair with vinegar before I wash it!

I don’t know how long I’ll keep it this way since I usually go darker in the winter, but I really like it so far! I guess it depends on the upkeep. I wanted to get rid of the blond highlights because I hate having roots and was getting foils every 6-8 weeks which was too much. My hair was starting to feel dry. I’m crossing my fingers this doesn’t fad too quickly!

I have no tips, I’m a brunette, but always wanted to try red hair. Can I ask you what you used to achieve that red? IT’S BEAUTIFUL!!!

  9. amanda says:

It’s red auburn but sadly, it’s fading fast :(

wow, the red looks really nice! and the second pic.. i love those relaxed waves/curls!
