The irresponsibility it not surprising, but what it’s tainted with is just plain disgusting. Beetles {parts and larvae} contaminated Similac formula made in Abbott Laboratories. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cautioned that tiny insect parts could irritate babies delicate digestive tracts, and might make them refuse to eat. Really…you don’t say. {insert eyeroll}
The powder was sold throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and certain Caribbean countries.

This made me just sick when I read about it last week. These corporations care more about profits than the health of babies. I have always though breastfeeding was important for a babies good health and after reading this it only confirms my belief.
I 100% agree with you. At the end of the day it’s a business. They’re in it for profit. Did you hear the part about how it was a 100 million dollar hit but it’s not going to affect their earnings for the year?
Ooooh *shivers*
Seriously people, how can they let that happen!? It boggles my mind at how many recalls we are experiencing in the past year or so. It’s scary!
I also have a blog called Simple Gifts ~ Stories from Breastfeeding Mamas

It is a place for women to write their breastfeeding story – I would love for you to share a story – or share the site with someone you know who would like to share a story!
I highly doubt the beetles and larvae were intentially planted in the formula to knowingly harm babies! Has anyone ever purchased bulk items from a natural foods/bulk store? ie: lentils, beans, whole grain flours?? I purchased a dried bean mix once that was filled with bug parts, eggs, etc….it is very easy for a couple of bug larvae to get into a dry product and then start reproducing! Don’t make it sound like it only in formula that it happens. It is more common than you might think and I don’t believe it is a plot to make people eat bug parts. It happens. Its unfortunate that the contamination happened, but it does happen…all the time…with many different products. Be thankful they announced the recall and will now make a concious effort to ensure their product is being stored properly.
