summer infant: bestview handheld color video monitor review {booster seat & bather giveaway $60}

If there’s a baby or children’s product that you’ve seen at Sears or Babies R Us, it’s very likely that Summer Infant is either its designer, marketer, distributor or all three! This is a brand that mom’s have trusted since 1984 and their range of products is extremely comprehensive. Everything from clothing, to furniture to well just about anything you’d find in your nursery!

An absolute must-have baby item that I always recommend to parents {new ones, especially} is a baby video monitor.We joke around and laugh that we have “baby surveillance” in our house but it’s not just for spying on your kids.  It’s for seeing their chest move up and down when you’re too scared to sleep because you’re afraid something might go wrong. It’s for trying to figure out what the “normal” noises are when your baby is sleeping. But what it’s ultimately for is your peace of mind.

We had a video monitor for our first son, Aidan {which eventually keeled over and was never that impressive to start with} and there was one moment that  made me realize how crucial it is to have a video monitor. I had just nursed Aidan to sleep, laid him in our bed on his back and went upstairs to watch tv. I glanced over at the video monitor to see him spit up while he was on his back. He started choking but wasn’t making much of any noise – something I wouldn’t have heard on a regular baby monitor. THANKFULLY I saw it happen and ran back to him, rolled him over and he was okay. From then on, I knew we would always use a video monitor. ALWAYS.

I had the opportunity to review their Bestview Handheld Color Video Monitor {$299}. {currently their featured product on their website}. We’ve been using this monitor for about 3 months now and I actually forgot to post about it! It’s one of those products that becomes such a part of our household, that I forgot it was a “review” product!

The set up was simple and as easy as plugging it in and turning it on. Learning to navigate through the menu took no time to get the hang of. Some  have complained about the volume being in the menu {have to press menu to get to the volume} but I didn’t feel like this was a big deal. Instead of pushing a volume button on say, the side, you press menu then push the joystick button up to turn it up. No biggie.  The mini joystick is similar to a trackball like on my blackberry. When you move it to the right and left, it actually pans around the entire room so you can see everything! Push it in and it zooms so you can view your little one up close and actually see them breathing!  Here are some more specs of this baby video monitor:

  • – 100% digital for a secure and private connection {I’ve overheard waaaay too many conversations on my old monitor! and since this one is digital you don’t have to search for a clear channel}
  • – 350’ range
  • – 2.5”color LCD screen with B&W night vision
  • – Remotely pan/scan/zoom
  • – Belt clip & flip stand
  • – LED sound light to see and hear baby’s every sound
  • – One touch video on/off for night time convenience {LOVE this feature!}
The 350 foot wireless range is incredible. My husband and I can put the children to bed then go out on the deck or sit around a fire in the backyard and still have crystal clear vision and sound all the way back into the bedroom! This monitor has beautifully clear night vision. There is zero fuzz and zero interference. The battery holds its charge for 10 hours so I can keep it on with just the rechargeable battery during the day, then plug it in at night to guarantee I’ll hear Ethan.  Keep in mind this camera is also secure with digital technology, so your neighbors won’t turn on their monitor and see your baby on their screen! I like knowing that if we have another child, I can add the camera to this monitor set without having to purchase an entire monitor set! You can monitor up to 4 separate rooms with this 1 handheld if you purchase additional cameras.
The Summer Infant Bestview Handheld Color Video Monitor is a must-have to add to your registry if you’re pregnant! Two other must-have products to add to your list are a baby bathtub and booster seat and that’s just what one lucky reader is going to win!
