fie logos flat iron experts: babyliss pro tourmaline ceramic curling iron {$119.99 giveaway}

I’ve been curling my hair for a long time. Hot rollers, velcro rollers, sponge rollers, curly rubber rollers I can’t remember the name of, curling irons {all sizes}, flat irons – you name it I’ve likely used it to curl my hair. I have very very thin hair and not a lot of it so keeping curls and using any type of heating product {especially those rubber spiral curlers! Ouch!} can be damaging for my hair. And  since my hair is fine, it’s really disappointing when I’ve spent half an hour trying to achieve the look I want only to end up with a mess of curls or limp flimsy barely there waves that look like I slept on wet hair {not a good look for me!}.

I actually gave up on curling irons when I started curling my hair with a flat iron. Which was sort of silly, because I much prefer the look of curling iron curls versus a flat iron curl if I have the extra time to use a curling iron.  This picture is a favorite {scroll to the bottom} not just because of the baby belly I miss so much but because the curls were bouncy and flowy even though I had short hair. The only problem was, it lasted all of one hour. Maybe.

Flat Iron Experts sent me a Babyliss Pro Tourmaline Ceramic Curling Iron in size 1″ for review. I’ve had pro flat irons but never a curling iron so I was very excited to see how this brand worked compared to cheapie versions! This was the result – Loose, wavy, beachy curls/waves that  truly last me all day and into the next day:

I’ve been using this curling iron every few days – my waves are generally in tact the next day give or take a bit of bed head so I never ever end up washing the day after I curl.  If my waves are looking out of shape, I can just curl a few pieces and it looks brand new or throw it up into a pony that has a bit of bounce and volume. I love wearing my hair curled because it never looks out of place – if it’s messy  it still works. I can whip my head over, puff it up with my fingers and it’s good to go again! It’s my easy “mom hair” that’s not so momish. To get a natural look, curl 2″ sections {since I have thin hair} in alternate directions to get a nice mix of curls going in and out. But always curl away from your face when you get to the pieces that frame your face. If you’re confused and can get past the annoying voices and handle a lot of “whatEVAR” and “alright!! so!!” spend some time on youtube watching how to curl your hair tutorials. This youtuber, Jess,  is one of my favorites for hair tutorials since she’s actually a hairdresser and not a 15 year old in her bathroom.

Back to the curling iron. If you go to the site and click on best curling irons you’ll find the Babyliss Pro #2.  This curling iron is equipped with the latest Tourmaline Ceramic Technology that has numerous benefits to your hair. Tourmaline/Ceramic Curling iron emits negative ions and far-infrared heat that brings a number of benefits:

  • - eliminates static electricity
  • - neutralizes odors
  • - preserves more moisture within the hair shaft
  • - causes less damage to the hair cuticle

This baby goes up to 428 degrees so depending on your hair type and the condition that it’s in, you”ll need less or more heat. Just go by the guide that’s included. The swivel cord is extra long and heavy duty which I love. Nothing worse that trying to do your hair with short cords that get tangled up!  Knowing what I know now about pro brands versus drugstore brands, there’s really no comparison. Like most things, you get what you pay for!

About Amanda

I'm Amanda. I started Natural Mommie in 2009 and have been turning mommies from eco-weak to eco-chic ever since! Having an intense addiction to sparkly pink strawberry flavored lipgloss and never claiming to be perfectly green I vowed to not give up my hip mama self once I became a mom and wanted to bring a little more organic into my life. My closet still isn’t full of organic cotton and bamboo, but it’s getting there!
