My husband and I are always preoccupied with something related to renovating a house, buying a house, selling a house, finishing a house….it’s always about a house. The idea is that one day we’ll be mortgage free in our 30′s but with the price of housing and the way the market is looking it’s a little grim! Back when we bought our first house in 2006 we thought we were paying a lot of money but now in 2012 the price of homes for first time home buyers outrageous!

The average price of a move in ready home in sought after family communities in Edmonton is approximately $260 per square foot which means an average 2 story home is going to be around $550,000. HALF a MILLION dollars! 10 or 15  years ago the thought of a half a million dollar house would ring up images of spiraling staircases, a chef’s kitchen and jewel encrusted jacuzzi tubs…sadly that’s a stretch nowadays and couples are having to get real with what they want versus what they need otherwise there’s easy potential to get in over your head when you get lost in the excitement of buying a new home.

About Amanda

I'm Amanda. I started Natural Mommie in 2009 and have been turning mommies from eco-weak to eco-chic ever since! Having an intense addiction to sparkly pink strawberry flavored lipgloss and never claiming to be perfectly green I vowed to not give up my hip mama self once I became a mom and wanted to bring a little more organic into my life. My closet still isn’t full of organic cotton and bamboo, but it’s getting there!
