How many times have you attempted to put your hair up with an elastic hoping for the perfect messy bun? Usually it ends up looking like a floppy loop with spiky ends sticking out everywhere, right? To get a perfectly placed, natural looking bun that’s not too tight, keep reading.
The sock bun is perfect for helping us feel AND look put together that just takes a couple of minutes. If you don’t have time to shower in the mornings (I usually don’t!) shower at night and go to bed with wet hair. Or blow dry if you have the energy. In the morning, simply follow the steps below and you’re done for the day. If you have plans for the evening, just let your sock bun out and you’ll have gorgeous loose waves.

- a thick, stretchy crew/ankle sock
- a bobbypin (or two)
- a hair elastic

Watch the video below and let me know if you try it!

I wish my hair were long enough! That looks great and easy, too.

Thank you for the tutorial! Your instructions were perfect. I usually cannot figure out what to do with my hair in the morn, this is a perfect solution.
You’re welcome Shelly! Hope this helps…it’s my go-to hair most mornings now!
I’m so doing this! YOU make it easy but we’ll see how much of a mess I can make of it! I’ll let you know…

I have faith in you! YOU CAN DO IT!! It’ll feel a little off at first, but keep going with it. And “dirty” hair works best!
Great tutorial! I’ve never been able to get that elegant messy bun look no matter how many times I’ve tried. I’m going to try your technique tomorrow. Now I’m off to find a loose sock. Thanks!
Same….my haphazardly thrown up messy buns were always hit or miss and this is a guarantee everytime! Let me know how you make out!
What a great idea! I can never get my hair into a bun, messy or nice. Will definitely have to try this.!
SO easy, right?
I have been looking all over for the doughnuts to buy in the store and haven’t found any – this is super fab! Went and tried it and it was not easy the first few times but got the hang of it! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
You’re welcome! I didn’t know you could buy them already made! I’d probably lose it anyways, so I’m glad I use the ‘ol sock method!
Ok not sure I’m ready to go out in public with it, but I did it and it worked, very easy! I need to work out the “rough” edges a bit but I got it on the first try! Thanks for the mom hair tip ;)
After a few tries it’ll be easier. And having dirty hair with a bit of product from the day before helps too :)
Sock buns are a great easy way to get your hair up and out of the way. Bun Queen sells hair donuts that make the perfect sock buns in minutes! They come in different sizes and colors!
What a neat tip!!! Off to find a sock ;)
