My main source of entertainment this summer is my boys and my husband. When you’re knee deep into renovating an entire house with just a 1 month timeline, entertaining friends and family is non-existent. So while I don’t have a fridge full of party food and casseroles waiting to feed a full house, I do have beer for the hubs and I to make all the painting and tiling a little more bearable AND to help us keep our sense of humor in tact while the children steal every single tool that’s laying around the house. Why do they always have to go for the sharpest ones?!
We recently just got to know our new Frigidaire Gallery French Door Refrigerator a couple weeks ago and like any appliance it takes some time to get used to it and figure out how it works, what set up is best for you family, etc., but this beauty just seemed to make herself at home right off the bat. I didn’t have to spend any time at all re-arranging shelves trying to figure out what to fit where because there is never a lack of space. It was the one (and only) thing in our house that was move-in ready!
Now, among the beer I also have other kid-friendly summer essentials for the boys such as a freezer full of yogurt pops and fridge drawers full of fruit and cheese for little hands to grab during the run of the day so my husband and I don’t have to stop what we’re doing every 30 seconds someone whines, “me hungry”/”me thirsty” a million times over.
^^No insulation in the attic yet means our house is unbelievably hot right now…so naturally they’re shirtless. This is real life, mamas…real life.
My boys can easily pull the big French doors open now and reach in for whatever they’d like from halfway down. The one thing that I drives me crazy though is when they use the water dispenser as a water gun fill up station so THANKFULLY they haven’t figured out the digital control lock. I love that you have to keep your finger pressed on the LCD for a certain length of time otherwise it won’t lock/unlock. Genius. :)
(Notice that bright white text below the 0? It reads “control locked”. )
Anything I want out of reach (like greek yogurts, blueberries and blackberries) so they won’t devour it all within 15 minutes of unloading it, I stick it up high on the top shelves. I can reach but it’s out of sight out of mind for my littles.
Below I’m using the adjustable split shelf. It’s pushed back under the applesauce to allow for taller items like the glass milk bottles. This is a fantastic feature for our family since I love to have a bunch of pitchers of naturally flavored waters on hand as well as lots of Pellegrino for the kids to mix with their juice to make “healthy pop juice” ;)
And it easily fits a huge watermelon. In my last side by side fridge this watermelon would be squishing something beneath it and the shelf would be sagging.
Here’s the deli drawer. Tons of room for cheese and meat and perfect for entertaining when you have a couple different platters that you want to set out as appetizers. It’s also a great spot for your eggs if you keep their in their tray. I like to move mine to a pretty bowl in the fridge but all my stuff is still in boxes!
^^ This drawer is a fantastic snack drawer for my boys. Once we’re all organized I’ll be putting in a couple dividers so they can each have their own go-to snack area to grab whatever they’d like (carrots, pretzels, sliced fruit, cheese strings, granola, yogurts, etc.).
I really like to keep the fruit and vegetables out of plastic bags, washed and ready to eat straight out of the fridge. Otherwise things sit in the plastic at the bag or bottom of the crisper and it never gets eaten. Having everything washed and ready makes it easy to grab, keeps it in plain view and the food actually gets eaten. Thanks to the PureAir Ultra Filters the air in this fridge is extremely clean and pure so nothing ends up “tasting like the fridge”.
And you can see everything even in the middle of the night with the beautiful ramp-up LED lighting on every shelf.
When you move to the country, runs to the grocery store become less frequent. Instead of stopping in to the grab a couple things every few days, grocery trips become a weekly or bi-weekly event so having a fridge large enough to hold 3 jugs of milk comfortably is a must and having the ability to stock up when there’s a sale without having to decide on what goes down to the dungeon (I mean cold room) is fantastic.
Now, we need a before picture.
And the almost finished after:
I’m so happy I took a ridiculous amount of pictures when the realtor showed us this old house. Tiny apartment sized appliances traded in for proper family friendly ones. She’s almost the same size as the fridge and stove combined. Awesomesauce right there. ^^
Aaaaand we’re getting there:
This gorgeous fridge truly does complete the space. Now, where’s my gloves. I have a crazy Friday night of painting ahead of me :)
