Every fall I start thinking about all the beautiful things I could knit or crochet for Christmas gifts. Then by November I realize I forgot to learn how to knit and crochet and start feeling down on my luck about not being able to pass around gifts tagged with “handmade with love from Amanda” on Christmas morning. Then I start to think about where I could purchase beautiful handmade knit or crocheted items for Christmas and suddenly I’m lost somewhere between a Google search for “locally handmade organic cowl neck scarves” and a Martha Stewart tutorial (because maybe I COULD learn how to knit in 3 weeks).
This is why malls tend to work so well for busy moms - everything is within one or two escalator rides and we’re done shopping after a few exhausting hours. BUT. We end up coming home with the majority of our items made in China, not ethically made and IF it’s organic, it’s likely still made in China and shipped across the world for you to buy with with the masses. For those of us who would like to make a point to have a (mostly) local and handmade Christmas, we’re left wondering where do we start? How does a busy mom do this?
With this exact scenario in mind, Christina Dennis of Golly Gee Baby a local baby clothing company and Leah Seidl of Whimsical Elements an independent accessories company founded WeeStock. Instead of spending hours on Google trying to figure out who the great local and handmade companies are in the city, they produced an entire baby show dedicated to Indie and boutique quality items that has focused on bringing local, handmade, organic, fair trade, and boutique-quality baby and toddler products and services to young families in the Edmonton area since its first show in early 2010.
WeeStock is the perfect opportunity to shop for a special mom-to-be in your life, for your new baby arriving soon, or for Christmas presents that you won’t find anywhere else for your toddlers. Last year at WeeStock I came across the most adorable line of handmade knitted owl hats so I stocked up and bought them for all the babies (including my own!) on my Christmas list :)
This year WeeStock 2013, WeeStock’s 6th show, will be held at the Aviation Heritage Centre at 11410 Kingsway Avenue in Edmonton on November 9th from 10 am to 4 pm. In addition to a unique shopping experience the show will have a Parent’s Lounge area for baby feeding and changing, a cafe with snacks and drinks, and a kid’s play area. You can also trade in your stroller for a baby carrier to try at our stroller check. Come early to the show – the first 100 guests will receive an early bird prize bag!
Grab your best friend, come for a hot cup of coffee, and enjoy a unique shopping experience.
WeeStock will also be hosting a silent auction in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. Guests are encouraged to bid on some items provided by vendors and sponsors, and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Foundation. Direct donations to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation will also be encouraged.
WeeStock is proudly sponsored by Cosy Baby Happy Mommy, Frugal Edmonton Mama, Modern Mama, Mommy Connections, Sweet Momma Spa, Urban Infant, The Waldorf Education Society of Edmonton, Whimsical Elements & Golly Gee Baby.
