Come Spring I can usually be found at the skateboard park watching my 6 year old do crazy tricks on his skateboard and my 4 year old buzzing around on the ramps with his bike. This means with the big blue Alberta sky, there’s always opportunity to work on my tan while doing my mom gig. My winter mom uniform of leggings and big comfy sweaters transforms into dresses. All day, everyday. Maxis, round necks, racer backs, knee length, ankle length…I love them all because I don’t have to think about pairing pieces together to make a “complete” outfit. One piece. Done.
There is that little tidbit of advice about wearing the “right” style of dress for your body type, but I’m more of the go with what you love and whatever feels right type of gal and don’t tend to pay attention to the rules. I’m 5’1 and love wearing ankle length maxi dresses. Maybe they’re not the best choice on a shortie like me but I love the fit, the free feel, the comfort and it can take me from playtime to date night with a quick jewelry change and a topknot. I should note that since I’m only 5’1, approximately 99.9% of the time I’m swimming in a maxi dress. They’re always about 4-6″ too long so hemming is just something that I’ve come to expect.
Simple knee-length dresses with an elasticized waist are also a staple. Like this one above that’s just $29.99. I have a similar one in black that I wear all the time in the spring and summer and wish I had it in every color! Pair it with these cute sandals (that are 40% off right now!) and you’re set for a day with the kids, a coffee date with a girlfriend or a date night with your man.
Oddly when it comes to Spring and Summer clothing for my children, my boys are actually harder to dress than myself! Depending on what we’re doing here’s the rundown:
>> skateboarding = skinny jeans + sneakers
>> playing = shorts + flip flops
>> exploring = pants + rubber boots
I feel like they’re constantly changing their clothes all the time so I always bring changes of everything in the vehicle with us whenever we go anywhere once the warmer weather hits. I never know if we’ll be hitting the skate park which is NOT flip flop friendly or if we’ll be going for a walk through the woods at the nature sanctuary so I always try to remember to bring all the options. Skateboarding in your rubber boots is not easy ;)
Because they go from being too cold to too hot about 10 times during the run of the day I usually have about 5 hoodies in the backseat “just in case” for layering. Sears has some of our favorite hoodies that wear really well. These Converse ones ($19.99) are awesome and hold up to being washed and dried a million times.
And my oldest really loves the Tony Hawk hoodies and has several of them. They’re really great quality and they’re on sale right now for Sears days for just $14.99! Their boys Tony Hawk boys skinny jeans are also 50% off and just $13.99 Such a steal!
Sears Canada is has their Sears Days on until April 6th so you can bet I’ll be dragging the kids to Sears over Spring Break to grab myself some new flats, a couple of new dresses and some essentials for my boys. TONS of items are 50% off right now!
To celebrate Spring, Sears Canada is giving away an amazing Photo Shoot Prize! One lucky winner will receive a framed 20×20 or 10×30 Specialty Product along with a complimentary photo shoot valued at $244.98! Good luck!
