green smoothie

I get asked a lot if I juice or blend for my green smoothies and the answer right now is blend - mostly because I find it quick and easy and clean up is a cinch with a magic bullet. I'm learning though that by juicing you're allowing the nutrients to make it to your blood stream and cells a lot quicker since your body doesn't have to go through the process of digesting all that fiber from the fruits and vegetables you just blended. For the green smoothie challenge that I've been taking part … [Read more...]

I've been making this bread for probably a year now. It's the only recipe I'll likely ever use because it's just too easy and too delicious to bother trying a new one! The crust is always chewy and never rock hard and crumbly. Inside you're left with a hearty, holey, artisan looking bread that you'd pay $3-$4 per loaf at the grocery store. And this is guaranteed to be free from preservatives, artificial colors, flavors and other random chemicals. - 3 cups lukewarm water - 1 … [Read more...]

Day 2: spinach \\ pear \\ kiwi \\ mango \\ mandarin \\ water   I always use 2 cups of spinach, about 1/2-3/4 cup water or juice cut with water, and 1/2- 1 of each fruit. Organic mango is frozen and I use about 1/2 cup. How's the challenge going for you?  I find replacing one meal very easy and don't feel hungry at all - there's a lot of food in this mason jar!   … [Read more...]

When most of us make (fruit based) smoothies it's a lot of throwing in whatever we have in the fridge or fruit bowl along with some icecubes and juice or milk or both. It's simple. But then we tend to over-think green smoothie recipes and stress about what to use and how to not make it taste like grass or dirt. When it comes down to it really the only difference between a regular smoothie and a green smoothie is usually just a handful of something leafy and this doesn't have to change the taste … [Read more...]

2012 has been very healthful year for my family. We've eliminated all artificial flavors and colors and most chemicals from our diet...of course some things sneak in once in a while ;) but overall we're a very healthy family. But one thing we need to work on is more leafy green vegetables, so green smoothies are an easy way to ensure we're all getting more. 2013 means at least one green smoothie everyday for everyone in our family...well for 30 days straight at least during the 30 day green … [Read more...]

You might be asking yourself “Did I read that right?”. The answer is “Yes, you certainly did!”. But why would we be talking about ‘New Year’s Resolutions already? Seems a little pre-mature, doesn’t it… or late in the year, depending on how you look at it. Well, here’s my line of thinking – it is well known that the number one topic for January ’resolution’ setting is a health or fitness related goal. And although well intentioned, most (more than 60%) of these goals will … [Read more...]

(well… mostly) One of the most important things to educate yourself on about fat are what kinds of fat are GOOD for you and should be consumed regularly, and what kinds are bad and should be avoided.  Not all fats are … [Read more...]

A re-post from last year, but I'm sitting here with a headache from not drinking enough water and thought I'm probably not the only one feeling parched today.
