medicine bottles

There is a lot of concern out there about scent in personal care, and rightly so. Many personal care products available on the market do contain a scent. In fact, visit any average drugstore and you'll have a truly difficult time finding a shampoo, conditioner, lotion or cream that doesn't have aroma. For most of these products the purpose of the scent is to perfume the user, eliminate negative odors, and create an encompassing product experience. Many times customers purchase a particular … [Read more...]

why women should lift weights

Let’s start this Fitness and Nutrition chapter by getting a few things straight, shall we? We’ve all been exposed to the wide array of fitness and diet fads. It can be overwhelming, to say the least. I remember the day when my mom took me to the Royal Bank in our little town and signed me up for my very own Leo Bank Account! I was so excited to have my own bank book and debit card...I felt like such a grown up walking up to the bank machine and the friendly tellers even though I was only 5 or 6 years old? I'll have to ask my mom! I'm so excited to do this with my boys when they're a little older but for now at ages 4 and 2, they're learning about money by taking care of the environment. One … [Read more...]

lego

One of the most incredible aspects of the LEGO® DUPLO® 30 Day Challenge was seeing this. Little boys, doing what they do best, together. And mostly without any fighting...but let's be real. The best part of LEGO for a 2 year old is smashing over big brother's enormous towers, right? Yes there have been lots of tears, lots of lego thrown across the room denting my walls and floors (and foreheads a couple of times) but it's been so much fun AND I have tons of beautiful candid pictures of … [Read more...]

breakfast cookies 3

Adding something new to the rotation of toast, greek yogurt, pancakes, oatmeal, waffles and eggs is always a welcomed change - a new muffin, bread, yes...but cookie? Now that's a way to get my kids to finish their breakfast without complaining. It's also something perfect for me when I'm running out the door still trying to finish my first coffee when I've realized I'd forgotten to eat breakfast. And since we ditched granola bars in place of these, I can't grab something store bought from the … [Read more...]

RD soap

Did you know that regular soap kills 99.4 percent of germs while antibacterial soap kills 99.6 percent? Or that the main ingredient in most commercial air fresheners is formaldehyde?  How about that the main ingredient in carpet cleaners is one of the most carcinogenic chemicals to humans?? It's news to me. Our relationship to chemicals is changing as new research draws a connection between health problems and exposure to certain compounds. Your home may be more toxic than you realize because … [Read more...]

water

A re-post from last year, but I'm sitting here with a headache from not drinking enough water and thought I'm probably not the only one feeling parched today. Courtesy of fitbie.com, hope you'll find it useful! In case your head doesn't hurt from being beaten over it with this information, here it is again: Water's pretty good for you. It stokes your metabolism so you burn more calories all day. It helps you stay energized, keeps you regular, and can improve your skin. If you replace just one … [Read more...]

essential oils

You may have noticed this pretty little trio of essential oils sitting on my desk in the new closet office nook. Why? They're been helping to keep me grounded and slightly less stressed than usual and mostly headache free while going through something that can be enjoyable, just as much as it is stressful -- and that is the change of seasons, more specifically spring and spring cleaning. Also changes with Natural Mommie and undergoing a new website design (which is an invitation for stress!), … [Read more...]
